I absolutely adore photographing brothers and sisters! The N family was so much fun to work with here in the studio. We did the entire portrait session in Black & White which is a beautiful and timeless look for children’s studio portraits. I love black and white portraits! It is really interesting to see the love siblings share, and the dynamic of brothers and sisters as they enter the studio, and throughout our portrait session. We always have tonnes of fun here with babies and kids and strive to create a welcoming and relaxed environment so our little ones who come for their portraits can feel right at home. It’s great to see the kid’s totally being themselves and interacting with each other and with me…and it’s through this interaction that we are able to produce honest, beautiful and real portraits that capture their true personality.
I have two brothers myself and I cherish our photographs and portraits that I have displayed at my home from when we were kids….it brings back so many great memories and my collection of old and new family photos have become a treasured heirloom. My favourite is a precious black and white of my dad and us three kids….go figure, my mom was the photographer of our family when we were growing up…:) She is still a wonderful photographer! Anyway, we were at a cottage, and all clinging on to my dad & this black and white image truly captured the essence of our childhood that summer. It is beautifully framed in a shadow box with a dried red rose from my dad’s memorial service. He passed away in 1998. My dad never got to walk me down the aisle when I got married, he never got to meet my wonderful husband and our beautiful daughter, or see how happy I am with my life & that I found my true calling and passion working as a photographer, connecting with so many amazing people. We have his photos in our home and we treasure them deeply. My daughter Camryn Rein has a bit of Reino’s personality in her I think. It’s a bit of the spark in her eye and her brilliant sense of humour that she already has at such a young age….Anyway, I have a great gallery wall in my own home displaying portraits from my side of the family & from my husband’s side of the family going back a few generations and it truly adds so much to making our house a home….I am going to need a bigger home soon, because our walls are getting filled…I also have quite a number of portraits of my daughter and the three of us from when she was newborn till now (she is now 2 years old) displayed throughout our home. I love to fill my home with the people that I love…it brings warmth to my heart and smiles to all of us every day. Anyway, I was feeling a little nostalgic after spending a wonderful long weekend with our families up at my brother’s cottage, reminiscing about lots of great childhood stories and sharing new stories, laughter & love. I will need to gather some of my old family portraits and scan them for another post one day….
Our boutique studio + gallery is located in a beautifully renovated loft space in the heart of historic downtown Barrie overlooking Kempenfelt Bay. As a boutique studio, we offer a very individualized service to our portrait clients. It is my goal to create a collection of beautiful fine art images from your portrait session that will capture your beauty, joy, connection and love. After our portrait session is complete, it will be 1-2 week turnaround for custom contact sheet proofs. As part of our service we include the ordering appointment with all of our portrait sessions. I listen to my clients wishes, and it’s great to see which images are their favourites…which ones truly capture the unique essence & personality of their children. I offer suggestions to my clients on how to best display the images from their portrait session. We can also post client galleries on our website in a password protected gallery if requested. During the busy summer months, we photograph many portraits for families visiting the area from across Canada, the US & Europe, and our clients can view and order their images online even after they have returned home from their visit to Simcoe County and the Muskokas.
Here are some of the images from our kid’s session with the N family. We designed a wonderful gallery wall with a collection of 9 framed images hung in a square pattern…which is always a stunning & classic presentation and then also did some larger canvas prints as well that can hold their own on a wall. It’s always very important to consider where you want to display your portraits, as well as how much wall space that you have. If the work is too small for the wall, then it will look out of proportion. Over the past 8 years of running a busy portrait studio, I have designed many wall galleries for my clients. I offer suggestions for creating a display with your portraits as well as wall gallery styles…whether it’s a very modern, salon style hanging, or keeping it very symetrical with your groupings. I can help you to design a wall gallery that you will cherish and that will compliment the décor of your home and your personal style, and most importantly that will become a treasured family heirloom.
I work very closely with all of our portrait clients from the initial consultation, to the portrait session and ordering appointment, and I am always honoured to be chosen to document these precious moments in my client’s lives. I always strive to establish a genuine connection with the wonderful families that I photograph, and it’s really so much fun to see so many of our clients every year or so when they come back in to update their family portraits.
